People and Planet

A Step Beyond Sustainability

In a world in need of some love, it's our duty to take sustainable practices one step further. That's why at Kinkara Luxury Retreat we endeavor to do our bit in bringing our people and planet back into balance. From our design to our day-to-day operations, we are breaking new ground in sustainable and regenerative practices which support our land, our community and our visitors. We're also looking to the next generation for a helping hand. Our land has been certified organic since 2017.

Travel Locally, Travel Responsibily

We believe the concept of “local” is key to sustainable hospitality. That’s why we hire local, buy local and make sure that our community and natural surroundings are well taken care of. Our team is almost 100% local, as is the food we serve, the amenities we provide and the wood we use for furnishings.

Regeneration & Reforestation

With a unique location bordering primary rainforest, we are granted with both a blessing and duty. At Kinkara Luxury Retreat, we are committed to reforesting our property with thousands of native and endangered tree species, and to repair our once nutrient-rich land. With thousands of recently planted fruit trees on our land, to the development of our organic and regenerative farm, our efforts are well underway (and when you visit you can see, and learn about, all we do!)

Kinkára in the Community

We nurture a close relationship with the community and embrace any opportunity to share our sustainable philosophies, be that through environmental education campaigns with our local school children, or through our visitors. We look to inspire progressive lifestyle changes in our guests through the immersive experiences we offer and provide a leading example of balanced living for our wider community.

Green by Design

Sustainability is a core value of ours, and we’ve designed it into our entire new-luxury retreat. At each turn we’ve made a sustainable choice – from our hardwood floors and furnishings crafted at our own wood shop using sustainable timber, to solar powered lighting in our tents and our selection of all-natural amenities.

In addition to banishing single-use plastics, we are innovating our way to becoming a waste-free destination. Already on track is our kitchen which has reduced its plastic waste by over 90% through original solutions and found numerous ways to put its organic waste to good use through composting efforts.
